Massage from the current principal
Mahamaya B.M.V is a leading girls school which belongs to Grade1-C catagory in Matara district. The classes consist of grade 1-13 including arts and commerce streams. The students population of the scool is 991 at the moment, as there is limited area of the scool promisses, and due to lack of the physical resources of the school. This has become a hindrence to the progress of the school . The accadimaic staff is 55 and non accadimaic staffis 07 when compare to the other leading schools in Matar District. We are proud to say that we are in a position to keep in pace with them. The students have shown their talents in extra curriculas activities an well as easthetic subjects such as dansing, music, drama ect . They were able to win island wide compitions as well.
Unfortunatly we were affected by the tsunami in 2004, devastating almost all the physical re sources. Fortunately with the help of the govenment and non govenment organisations we could rebuilt the school and we could continue the education process with out any hindrance, but as the govenment suggested to move the school to a safe location and we found a land of 3.5 acres at Rassandeniya close to Dondra. and at present the coustruction work is being done for a new school with adequate facilities.
I beleive in the near future we will be able to provide much better education for our chidren with better facilities to continue their curricular subjects as well as extra curricular activities to the highest level .
I must say that the cooperation given by the deputy principals, accademic staff and non academic staff is a great help to keep school in highest strandard and provide a better service to the people of Matara District. I wish the school a success and make it one of the brightest star among the schools in the Island.
